A heartwarming and funny new play

“Everyone knows what this country’s going through. All of us could tell a story of harm we’ve suffered.”

It’s local re-election time and MP Mary is buzzing. In the last round everyone spoiled their vote. They felt unheard and wanted to show those in power that they weren’t to be taken for granted. She’s not going to let that happen again.

As Mary joins people gathered together in the local pub, conversations start. Jokes are thrown in. Ideals clash. There’s singing on tables! Love blossoms. And something starts to shift…

This funny and heartwarming play by Barney Norris – writer of the Sting musical The Last Ship – is about what happens when your voices take centre stage and those with influence start to listen.

Told through spoken English, British Sign Language (BSL), Sign Supported English (SSE), creative captioning and with original live music.

With Kit Esuruoso (Tina The Musical), Chaya Gupta (EastEnders), Gabriella Leon (Casualty), Lauren Moakes (Romeo and Juliet), Fergus O’ Donnell (Downtown Abbey, Holby City) and Bharti Patel (Doctors, EastEnders).

Take part in Our Public House

Our Public House is inspired by speech writing workshops Dash Arts ran across the country and all the amazing people and speeches we’ve met and heard. We want to work with the people of Leeds and surrounding areas, and welcome your voices to be heard in our play at Leeds Playhouse.

Each performance of Our Public House will involve a group of local participants who will perform in some of the scenes of the play, alongside professional actors. You will watch the show from the auditorium in the first half, and then move to audience seating onstage in the second half.

For more info download the flyer here. Or email Cristina at Dash Arts on participation@dasharts.org.uk to express interest. Please write “OUR PUBLIC HOUSE – LEEDS” in the subject

line.
