Develop your career

We give artists the support they need to create, experiment and innovate in a stress-free environment.

This is not about developing a show – see Developing your project for information about that – but about developing you as an artist.

Who is it for?

You must be aged 18+, a semi-professional or professional artist at any stage of your career, and currently living or working in Yorkshire.

We are committed to reflecting the world we live in and removing barriers to careers in the arts that disproportionately affect some communities.

We have funding available to pay for support workers, interpreters, travel and anything else you might need to participate in Furnace.

If there’s a barrier we haven’t thought of yet, just let us know.

How much does it cost?

It’s FREE. In some instances, it might even result in a payment or fee for participating artists.

How do I get involved?

Sign up to our Furnace newsletter for:

  • exclusive training opportunities, vacancies, workshops, courses and social get-togethers.
  • regular callouts for a variety of creative roles, including assistant directors, trainee artistic planning assistants, trainee producers, and assistant designers.

One of the key ways we support artists is through one-to-one chats – usually over a brew in our restaurant or Front Room Café. Members of artistic planning and the wider Playhouse team can offer feedback and advice on a wide range of subjects, including applications, budgets, contracting, access and dramaturgical support.

If you fancy a brew, email Furnace Producer rio.matchett@leedsplayhouse.org.uk, adding a brief note saying what kind of advice you are looking for.
