We're launching an open callout for Open Season 2026 - our exciting annual community festival.
Open Season is the Playhouse’s annual festival of community creativity. The 2026 event, which runs in June and July, is an exciting opportunity for individual performers and groups from across the Leeds City Region to act, sing, dance – or all three! – at one of the most prestigious regional theatres in the country.
The theme for 2026 is Happy Birthday, Leeds! to mark the milestone 400th anniversary of the Playhouse’s hometown receiving its royal charter and becoming a city. Performances will take place across the Playhouse, including in the Courtyard Theatre and the Level 2 Bar/Kitchen.
“Performers can interpret the theme in whatever way they like. It’s just a jumping off point for their creativity,” said Lily Craig, Head of Playhouse Connect at the Playhouse. “We can’t wait to see the amazing performances it inspires – and to meet the community creatives who will be bringing their talents to our stages.”
You don’t have to be a performer to take part in Open Season 2026. Community-led events, such as open mic sessions, celebrations, exhibitions and kitchen takeovers are also welcome additions to the programme, making it a festival that everyone can get involved in.
Apply now to be part of Open Season 2026 by filling in this form. The deadline for applications is Sunday 18 January 2026 and everyone will be informed by 13 February if their idea is going to be part of the programme.
“In the first instance, all you need is a great idea,” said Lily. “We can’t guarantee you’ll get the space or the dates you want, but we can guarantee that we’ll read your proposal. We’re going to include as many local performers and groups as we can – so why not give it a go?”
If you would like to apply for a spot at Open Season 2026 but would like more guidance, the Playhouse is hosting two information sessions: online on Friday 28 November from 4-5pm; and in-person on Wednesday 10 December from 12.30-1.30pm. Email connect@leedsplayhouse.org.uk to book your place.
