Once upon a time there were three bears who lived in a lovely colourful theatre on a hill in a magical place called Leeds…

Welcome to a new chapter in Leeds’ storybook summer with a fantastic fundraising Bear Hunt, inspired by Michael Rosen’s ever popular children’s book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

Thirty-five life-size bear sculptures and an abundance of cute cubs are taking over the city from 1 July to 9 September as part of Leeds Bear Hunt, a free, family-friendly trail around the city and surrounding parks presented by LeedsBID, Leeds Hospitals Charity and Wild at Art.

The larger bears have been sponsored by local businesses and decorated by local artists, while the 50 or so cubs have been designed by primary schools, nurseries and other children’s groups.

The three bear cubs who have found a cosy home for the summer at the Playhouse are Bernie the Burmantofts Bear, created by Burmantofts Community Nursery; Buddy (Because Everyone Needs a Friend) by Robin Hood Primary School; and The Hands of Families by Leeds Bright Horizons First Direct Hamilton Nursery.

Why not pop into the Playhouse to say hello to our fluff-tastic trio of bear cubs and pick up some fun colouring sheets and stickers from Box Office? Then, if you’re a bit peckish after all that strenuous cub patting, you can grab some grub from our Front Room Café and head to Playhouse Gardens to enjoy a giant-sized teddy bears’ picnic with the Leeds Rhino Bear and, just a few steps further up Quarry Hill, SOYO Bear outside Moda, both sponsored by our good friends at Caddick Group.

Leeds Bear Hunt is completely free, fully accessible and designed for the whole family. You can spot the bears across a range of iconic landmarks and hidden gems, making it a fantastic opportunity to discover new corners of the city while taking in the great outdoors.

Simply download the Bear Hunt app from leedsbearhunt.co.uk for tips on where to find the bears, step tracking and other useful resources.

Designed to celebrate the vibrancy, culture and creativity of Leeds, the Bear Hunt is also raising money for Leeds Children’s Hospital. The bear-rilliant event will end with a spectacular Farewell Weekend in September, when the 35 giant bears will come together at Leeds City Museum before finding their forever homes at a charity auction.
