Actor, comedian, writer and TV presenter provides vocal talent as Shisha Lounge owner Chunky in Blue Mist, which comes to our Courtyard Theatre from 17-20 June.

Renowned actor and comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar – DI Sunny Khan in ITV’s hit crime thriller Unforgotten, and King Arthur in the West End smash Spamalot – is lending his incredible vocal talent to Blue Mist as Shisha Lounge owner Chunky.

Presented by Boundless Theatre and Tamasha, Mohamed-Zain Dada’s play was originally staged at the Royal Court Upstairs in 2023. It was nominated for an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Affiliate Theatre and won an Asian Media Award for Best Stage Production.

Directed by Milli Bhatia, Blue Mist explores the experiences of young South Asian Muslim men as they meet up and talk about life in Chunkyz Shisha Lounge.

The production features Omar Bynon, who originated the role of Jihad in the Royal Court production. He is joined by Azan Ahmed as Rashid and Kashif Ghole as Asif.

Dada said: “Blue Mist is a story about young Muslim men carving out joy and identity. It’s about the spaces that hold us together and the laughter that comes from everyday moments in our communities. From the dramas at Jummah, to fillet-o-fish, to the absurdities of gym culture. But it’s also about how the media willfully misrepresents us, distorts our humanity and makes us out to be monsters. Blue Mist questions how we might confront these narratives and the people in power who perpetuate them.”
