A guide for playwrights who want to submit work to theatres and competitions.

Drawing on her extensive experience working as a freelance script reader as well as sharing insights from our recent script submission window, our Furnace Coordinator Naomi Sumner Chan gives writers an industry insider’s advice on submitting their work to theatres and competitions.

What are script readers looking for, what are the common mistakes to avoid and how you can you make your script stand out from the rest?

Naomi has read for numerous UK theatres and playwriting prizes including The Royal Court, the National Theatre, Theatre 503, Liverpool Everyman, The Royal Exchange, Traverse and Papatango Prize.

As a writer she has been shortlisted for The Women’s Playwriting Prize twice, was a finalist for the inaugural UK Women in Theatre Lab and top 2% in BBC Writersroom open call.
